Most homeowners assume a fallen sink is a freak accident. It isn't. It's a predictable failure built into every standard installation, and the repair most people get doesn't fix the cause. It just resets the clock.
The undermount sink industry hasn't changed in decades. Adhesive sealants applied to the rim are asked to do two jobs simultaneously: waterproof the joint and bear structural load. Add a handful of cheaply produced clips, and you have a support system expected to carry the combined downward load of the sink itself, the water it holds, and in many kitchens, a garbage disposal running beneath it.
A full kitchen sink holds 15 to 20 gallons of water. Add cast iron pans, stacked dishes, and a garbage disposal running at 1,700 to 2,800 RPM beneath it, and the downward force on the support system is substantial and unrelenting. Under sustained load, clip fasteners gradually relax and lose torque. The vibration accelerates this, working against the hardware with every cycle.
